Welcome to The Recruiter's Studio

At The Recruiter’s Studio, you can search for jobs and get real world advice, tips and information, in the form of webcasts, articles and resources that you can immediately use to pursue the career of your dreams.

As a recruiter, I am always talking to people about the jobs they have, the jobs they want, and the jobs they dream about. Each month on The Recruiter’s Studio, I will share some of those conversations with you via webcast. You will also hear from “how-to” authors, industry experts and hiring managers who talk candidly about what they look for on resumes and listen to in job interviews.

I am what Malcolm Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point, calls “a Connector;” someone who knows, and enjoys meeting and knowing, lots of different kinds of people who occupy many distinct worlds. That is why I’ve been able to source, interview and place candidates with unique backgrounds – a Rhodes Scholar, a UN Peacekeeper and an Anthropologist – as well as candidates with more mainstream experience – salespeople, scientists, marketing, legal and administrative staff – at start-ups, mid-sized and established companies.

I got started in the business nine years ago working with an established regional staffing company that had an excellent reputation. The president of the company, who likened me to “a force of nature,” took a chance on me, someone with no specific industry experience, and no fear of picking up the phone. He was the perfect manager for me, someone who gave me a target to shoot for, the tools and time to make it happen, and an open door if I had any questions. Then he stepped out of the way.

My time in the staffing industry in a business development role gave me the big picture perspective. My front row seat as an in-house recruiter taught me that it’s easier to hire top talent when there is a strategy and a systematic business process in place. It’s generally more cost-effective too.

Along the way I’ve learned that what people on both sides of the interview table really want is the same thing: individuals who are excited to come to work in the morning, eager to contribute to a team’s success, inspired by the challenges presented, and motivated to do the best job possible in an environment that they can both call home. The fun for me is in connecting the two.
